Business Owner inspires Customers to Give Back on Their Lunch Break

In December, as temperatures plunged into the low 30’s, homeless shelters in Dallas began to fill up, leaving many out in the cold.

Emilia Flores, owner of local business The Taco Shop, recognized the growing issue and made an effort to help the homeless stay warm. Now, The Taco Shop is running its second annual take-a-coat, leave-a-coat rack, an idea she got while on a visit to Mexico.

“This is a way of people not being embarrassed about asking,” said Flores. “They just come and pick what they need and leave.”

“In small ways you can actually make a difference,” she said. “And this year particularly I thought that the world is so polarized and the country is so polarized, it’s just another reminder that it takes very little to make life easier for people.”
