REPORT: Patriots Reach Deal With Former MVP Quarterback Cam Newton

It appears that Bill Belichick has replaced his former league MVP quarterback with… another former league MVP quarterback.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that, according to league sources, Cam Newton has reached an agreement on a one-year, “incentive laden” deal with the New England Patriots.

Newton will replace former quarterback Tom Brady, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during free agency. This latest news may explain why the Patriots did not select a quarterback in this year’s draft.

The Carolina Panthers released Newton on March 24 after nine years. The team drafted him number one overall in the 2011 draft. Newton has made it to three Pro Bowls and was the NFL’s MVP in 2015.
