Patriots head coach Bill Belichick held his first News Conference of the year as former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez showed his face in court for a probable cause hearing.

The coach admitted that he is ‘personally disappointed and hurt” by the murder case against former tight end, Aaron Hernandez.

Belichick began the conference stating, "I'm going to address the situation involving Aaron Hernandez today," he continued, "It is sad day on so many levels. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and victims. I extend my prayers to all those who were impacted."

This may have taken many by surprise while the public was unsure in the moments leading up to the press conference if he was actually going to comment on the situation of his former team player.

Belichick learned about the ongoing criminal investigation of his team member while he was out of the country saying that he was, "shocked and disappointed," that someone in his organization was involved with a murder investigation.

"We do not condone this behavior, and this does not represent the way the New England Patriots want to do things," Belichick said.

The head coach explained that the team looks extensively at the background of a player, the family, his high school, college background, his motivation, athletic skills but states that this situation, "Certainly goes way beyond being a football issue, this is real life."

"I've been advised to address the situation once. Its time for the New England Patriots move forward," Belichick said, "We have so many people on this team who work hard and do the right thing."

Players begin reporting for training camp on Thursday. Quarterback Tom Brady and other veterans are scheduled to address the media. Practices are to start on Friday.
