57 More Disney Stores To Close; Only 25 Will Remain After Sept. 15

Disney Stores are closing a majority of their standalone brick-and-mortar retail locations by September 15. The House of Mouse is shifting their retail gears in favor of e-commerce and dedicated footprints inside select Target locations. 57 locations are reportedly set to close, leaving only 25 standalone stores. Locations in Massachusetts will, reportedly, be affected.

The news comes shortly after Disney and Target announced plans to expand Disney-branded footprints inside 100 of the department store’s locations, according to CNBC.

“While consumer behavior has shifted toward online shopping, the global pandemic has changed what consumers expect from a retailer,” said Stephanie Young, president, Consumer Products Games and Publishing. “Over the past few years, we’ve been focused on meeting consumers where they are already spending their time, such as the expansion of Disney store shop-in-shops around the world. We now plan to create a more flexible, interconnected e-commerce experience that gives consumers easy access to unique, high-quality products across all our franchises.”
